Britta Meyermann Named Managing Director of Odeon Fiction

Odeon Fiction has appointed Britta Meyermann, who has been with the company since 2013, as its new managing director, effective May 1.

Meyermann will be succeeding Mischa Hofmann, who is stepping down from his role as managing director on May 31 after 19 years. Meyermann has served as producer and head of international co-production since 2013.

Meyermann has credits for titles such as The Night in Question, The Seed and Spy City. Her current projects include the development of a major international co-production series with Degeto and the English-language series Learning to Fly, which she is developing as a co-production between Odeon Fiction, the Swedish-French producer Patrick Nebout (Midnight Sun, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, Whiskey on the Rocks) and the Finnish broadcaster Yle.

Prior to joining Odeon Fiction, Meyermann worked for Global Screen as VP of acquisitions and co-productions. She also spent time at ZDF Enterprises, where she was responsible for the acquisition of feature films and TV series for ZDF and ZDFneo.

“We would like to thank Mischa Hofmann for a large number of great and successful productions that have made TV history,” said Fred Kogel, CEO of LEONINE Studios and managing director of Odeon Fiction. “We respect his wish to start a new chapter in his life and remain professionally and amicably connected to him. At the same time, we are delighted to have Britta Meyermann with us, an extremely creative, experienced and internationally established producer who will lead our strong Odeon Fiction brand into the future and shape its content strategy from now on.”

“Odeon Fiction has an impressive history and was built up by Mischa Hofmann over two decades with outstanding commitment and creativity,” commented Quirin Berg, chief creative and co-chief production officer at LEONINE Studios. “Britta Meyermann, a highly-esteemed and renowned producer, has a keen sense for exciting stories and innovative formats and has extensive experience. I am very much looking forward to further expanding our fiction portfolio together with Britta and her team.”

Meyermann said, “I am very excited to lead Odeon Fiction, which Mischa Hofmann has managed so successfully for so long, into the future with the best team anyone could wish for. We are proud of our popular and highly-rated formats such as Masuren-Krimi, Ein Fall Für Zwei or the charming new edition of Kanzlei Liebling Kreuzberg, as well as the numerous series and movies for broadcasters and streamers such as Neuland, Boom Boom Bruno or Tender Hearts. We will continue to build on this to create modern, entertaining, high-quality and relevant series and films for a broad audience.”

Hofmann added, “It has been a great, challenging and exciting journey with Odeon Fiction. I would like to thank the fabulous team I have had the pleasure of working with over many years and also Fred Kogel and Quirin Berg for their excellent cooperation and trust. I have decided to start a new chapter in my life after almost two decades at the helm of Odeon Fiction. I want to focus on my creative work again, concentrate on developing material with authors and directors and realize my own projects. With Britta Meyermann, we have a talented successor from our own ranks who, with her valuable expertise in the co-production business, has exactly what it takes to be successful in today’s market.”
