TV Markíza Debuts Broadchurch Adaptation

Slovakia’s TV Markíza has debuted an adaptation of the British series Broadchurch, locally titled VINA and produced by Paprika Studios.

The localized 16-part version is set in a small town where peace is disrupted by the brutal murder of an 11-year-old. It was filmed across Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.

The Slovakian drama’s cast features Tomáš Maštalír, Gabriela Marcinková and Vica Kerekes. It is directed by Braňo Mišík and Braňo Holiček and showrun by Bence Trunkó, COO of Paprika Studios.

VINA is streaming on Yoyo and broadcasting on TV Markíza now.

“Paprika Studios has been active on the Slovakian television market for a long time and has already produced several popular entertainment shows and series,” said Ákos Erdős, CEO of Paprika Studios. “We work closely and successfully with TV Markíza and are proud to have produced big hits such as Klamstvo, the adaptation of the British series Liar, and Pán Profesor, based on the very popular international series The Teacher. We are thrilled to have developed this great and captivating series for them as well.”

Trunkó commented, “We believe that adapting a popular international format can only be successful if the creators can capture the thoughts and tastes of the local audience, and we approached VINA with this attitude. It was an exciting professional challenge to be part of the creative process, and we were eagerly awaiting the moment when this compelling story would reach the viewers.”
