Flower of Evil, originally developed and produced by Studio Dragon in Korea, has been remade in India by Rose Audio Visuals for ZEE5.

The nine-part Indian adaptation, locally titled Duranga, stars Gulshan Devaiah and Drashti Dhami. Slated to premiere on ZEE5 on August 19, the show centers on a man who attempts to hide his past from his detective wife.

“The vivacity of Asian culture and its inherent similarities is one of the key reasons for Korean content finding a huge fan base in India,” said Nimisha Pandey, chief content officer of Hindi originals at ZEE5. “With such high affinity, we are delighted to announce Duranga, and we hope that Duranga receives as much love and success as Flower of Evil has with the audiences.”

“Korean dramas have long fascinated Indians,” added Goldie Behl, creator of he Indian adaptation and producer at Rose Audio Visuals. “We are extremely glad to collaborate with ZEE5 and Nimisha Pandey for the official remake of Flower of Evil into a Hindi series. We were certain from the beginning that this particular show would fit well with Indian sensibilities because Korean culture is a lot like Indian. It is the first Korean drama that has been officially remade in India, and it is a matter of extreme honor that we had the good fortune of doing this with ZEE5 as supportive and enthusiastic partners.”

Sarah Jang, producer at Studio Dragon, who is in charge of developing and producing the series, said, “The remake of Korean drama for the first time in India, which has different sentiment and content trend, is a remarkable achievement. I hope Flower of Evil, which was well-recognized for its unique combination of romance, thriller and immersive storyline, [will] gain popularity in India as well.”
