ZDFE Sends Swedish & Russian Dramas to Asia

ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE) has scored deals in Japan and India for several Swedish and Russian dramas, including the new series Agatha Christie’s Hjerson.

Japan’s AXN Mystery has secured the exclusive pay-TV rights to the Swedish crime series Agatha Christie’s Hjerson. Based on the fictional detective written by Agatha Christie’s character Ariadne Oliver, the series sees a TV producer try to reset her career with a true-crime show starring retired criminal profiler Sven Hjerson.

Also in Japan, WOWOW bought the exclusive pay-TV rights for Top Dog, produced by Filmlance for Sweden’s TV4 and Germany’s ZDF. From the producers of Bron (The Bridge), Top Dog centers on the clash between a Stockholm business attorney and a Södertälje ex-convict.

Reeva Films India acquired the exclusive VOD rights for Sherlock: The Russian Chronicles, co-produced by Russia’s START and Sreda. Set in 19th-century St. Petersburg, the series follows Sherlock Holmes as he attempts to track down the serial killer Jack the Ripper.

“It is our goal to further strengthen our presence in the Asian market in the new year,” said Yuliya Fischer, director ZDFE.drama at ZDF Enterprises. “I am confident that other recent highlights from our drama catalog, such as Stories to Stay Awake, Between Two Worlds and White Night, will also find a home in this highly interesting market.”
