EDMONTON: Canada's Super Channel has revealed that 34 feature films and docs are being financed through the Super Channel Development Fund.

Among the 23 movies being funded are The Woods, a Brightlight Pictures film set in the remote wilderness of the Pacific Northwest; South Creek Pictures' The Hunted, about a young man searching for the person who killed his parents; and The Day Santa Didn't Come, a Scythia Films production focused on an 8-year-old boy who is worried about his status on Santa's "Good List" in the run-up to Christmas.

Super Channel is also supporting 11 documentaries, including Markham Street Films' Celtic Soul, which follows a Hollywood actor and Irish broadcaster's sport-themed road trip; Paris-Tokyo, a Lowic Media 2008 production about a mythological odyssey that occurs shortly after WWII; and Triplex Films and the NFB's Theatre of Life, centered on a renowned chef who collects wasted food to create healthy meals for the homeless in Milan.

"We received a record number of submissions this round and were very impressed with the quality," noted Melissa Kajpust, the head of creative development for Super Channel. "We are delighted to be working with a number of producers who are bringing their projects to Super Channel for the first time and we look forward to seeing these exciting feature films and documentaries come to life on the screen."
