Brightlight Pictures is developing the new comedy series Fort Puleyne along with Pier 21 Films, writer Evany Rosen (New Eden) and Bell Media.

Fort Puleyne follows the foppishly optimistic young officer Major Fitzwilliam “Fitz” Gower as he leaves behind the life he knows for Upper Canada, where he’ll lead a misfit militia in the British Army during the War of 1812. The series is written and created by Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley, B Positive) and Humphrey Ker (Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet).

Shawn Williamson, president of Brightlight Pictures, will serve as an executive producer on the project, along with Brightlight’s director of development, Jameson Parker.

Williamson said: “Thomas and Humphrey have created something really special with Fort Puleyne. We have been incredibly excited about this project since we first read the script and we’re looking forward to working with the Bell Media team on its development.”

Parker said: “Having spent the last few years working with Thomas on multiple projects, we are looking forward to continuing our creative relationship with him on Fort Puleyne. We can’t wait to bring this to the screen with our partners at Pier 21.”

Ker commented: “Thomas and I were brought together because of our shared love of history.”

Middleditch added: “We are looking forward to working with Brightlight and Pier 21 to bring a new entry into everyone’s favorite genre: historical comedy.”
