ATLANTA/BANGKOK: The Weather Company, which operates The Weather Channel, among other assets, has partnered with Thairath TV to launch weather services in Thailand.

Thairath TV is one of seven newly licensed digital news channels in Thailand. The channel was launched on April 24.

In addition to The Weather Channel, The Weather Company operates weather.com, Weather Underground and third-party publishing partners.

“In launching Thairath TV, our goal is to take Thai audiences to a new level of broadcasting excellence supported by cutting-edge newsroom technologies, so working with The Weather Company, the world’s leading provider of broadcast weather services, was a natural choice for us,” said Vachara Vacharapol, the CEO of Triple V Broadcast, which operates Thairath TV. “Anyone who witnessed the 2004 tsunami or the catastrophic floods of 2011 will appreciate why weather is such a vital aspect of life in Thailand, and yet it has been somewhat underreported in the past. Thairath TV intends to address that by expanding the breadth and depth of reporting of natural disasters, climate change and all forms of weather.”

Bill Boss, the managing director for the Asia Pacific at The Weather Company, added: “We are delighted to launch weather services in Thailand with the Thairath group, one of the country’s preeminent media organizations, and we look forward to The Weather Company’s software solutions, know-how and experience playing a significant role in the success of the Thairath TV channel. Across the Asia-Pacific region we are seeing a significant increase in the demand for timely, accurate, sophisticated and dynamic weather presentations. Media companies across the region are responding to this appetite for information, and The Weather Company is well placed to meet the needs of Asia’s broadcasters and audiences alike.”
