NHK President Ryoichi Ueda Elected as ABU VP

Ryoichi Ueda, the president of NHK, has been elected as VP of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

Ueda has been appointed for a three-year term, starting from January 1. Representatives from January 2018 also include Ko Dae-young, president and CEO of KBS; Supriya Sahu, the director-general of India’s Doordarshan; and Sun Yusheng, VP of CCTV.

The ABU is the international organization of broadcasters of the Asia-Pacific region. It consists of more than 270 member broadcasters across 72 countries and regions.

Ueda commented: “The management environment of our industry is facing the most drastic transformation we have ever experienced, due to digitalization and the spread of the internet. As president of NHK, I pledge to share our experience with ABU members, and to do whatever we can to contribute to the development of the broadcasting industry in the Asia-Pacific region.”
