HONG KONG: There have been several new initiatives this year from HBO Asia, including expanding the distribution of its online streaming service, HBO GO, in the Philippines.

The company also shortened the window for scripted HBO and Cinemax originals to air less than one day after U.S. premieres. This started with the brand-new Cinemax original series The Knick, starring Clive Owen and directed by Steven Soderbergh. “We aim to narrow the window between our Asian and U.S. premieres even further to beat piracy, and work closely with our partners to continually add value for our subscribers,” says Magdalene Ew, the head of marketing, creative and content at HBO Asia.

Another development this year was the production of the new four-part original horror miniseries Grace, which debuted October 17.
