BBC Worldwide Signs MOU with China’s Mango TV

LONDON: BBC Worldwide has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Chinese new-media broadcaster Mango TV for co-production and format opportunities, among other initiatives.

Key areas of collaboration will include the exploration of opportunities that capitalize on the strengths of each party in terms of talent, creativity, production and distribution channels. The groups will also explore potential co-production and format projects, particularly in BBC documentaries, factual entertainment programs, dramas and films targeting the Chinese and global market.

Mango TV is operated by the Hunantv.com Interactive Entertainment Media Co. The agreement follows similar pacts BBC Worldwide recently announced with Shanghai Media Group and CCTV 9, marking this week’s official Chinese state visit to the U.K.

Paul Dempsey, the president of global markets for BBC Worldwide, said, “We are delighted to be cementing our relationship with Mango TV by announcing this exciting new phase of our long-term alliance and look forward to working together toward the exchange of expertise and creation of new business models across media spaces in both China and globally."

“With the establishment of [a] strategic partnership, we hope to achieve a win-win situation in both China and global content markets for both Mango TV and BBC Worldwide,” said Ding Cheng, the CEO of Mango TV.
