TV Azteca Stands Behind Stoppage of Nostromo Show

MEXICO CITY, October 4: TV Azteca is standing by its
decision to shut down production on the new Telemundo reality show Quinceañera at the end of last month, as part of its legal
dispute with the production company Nostromo, and the show’s host, Alan Tacher.

Last month, Telemundo issued a statement pointing to the
“unjustified use of force and intimidation” on the part of TV Azteca, which
shuttered production of the show at Foros Ajusco. “The process, a common
practice in both U.S. and Mexico, was conducted in a peaceful manner by the
public authorities and in the presence of legal teams representing Nostromo,
Foros Ajusco and TV Azteca,” TV Azteca said in a statement today.

The production block followed the filing of a lawsuit in
August against Nostromo and Tacher, alleging breach of contract. TV Azteca said
in a statement: “The company reiterates that its decision to demand contract
fulfillment from Mr. Tacher and Nostromo is well within its legal rights and
includes an obligation to protect its intellectual property and other rights.
Telemundo was aware of Tacher and Nostromo's contractual obligations as
detailed in a July 28 letter from TV Azteca that was delivered to Telemundo.
However, TV Azteca noted that these proceedings are not against Telemundo. Don
Browne, president of Telemundo, confirmed the TV Azteca position that there is
no conflict between the companies during a recent press conference in Mexico.”
