TV Azteca Reports Record Q2 Ad Revenue

MEXICO CITY: TV Azteca posted a record high of Ps.2.9 billion ($228.9 million) in sales for the second quarter, driven by advertising demand from the World Cup and other soccer-related programming.

"Our attractive programming grids generated once again a solid expansion of advertising demand, which was complemented this quarter by campaigns for our World Cup Soccer coverage," said Mario San Roman, the CEO of TV Azteca. "Client preferences translated into strong increases in revenue, the highest level in history for a second quarter, as well as double digit EBITDA and net income increases for the period."

Quarterly net income came in at Ps.380 million ($29 million), a 24-percent gain compared to the previous period. Net sales were 16-percent higher than the year-ago quarter. Total costs and expenses were Ps.1.814 billion ($142 million), compared to Ps.1.532 billion ($121 million) in the year-ago period. As a result, TV Azteca reported EBITDA of Ps.1.045 billion ($82.5 million), 11-percent higher than the Ps.944 million ($74.5 million) in the second quarter of 2009.
