The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells Notches Up Sales

HILVERSUM/BUENOS AIRES: Thirteen territories have signed up for the romantic comedy The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells, a co-production from Endemol Argentina, Telefe Contenidos and telenovela production house Underground.

Cuatro in Spain, RCN in Colombia, TVN in Chile and Ecuavisa in Ecuador have all acquired the scripted format, while the original version is headed to the Philippines, El Salvador, Uruguay, Bolivia, Honduras, Albania, Macedonia and Georgia. The scripted format has also been picked up in Greece, and further deals are pending in numerous major territories around the world.

The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells is a romantic comedy that tells the story of failed actor Gonzalo Echague who is secretly hired to live the life of Martin Pells, the most famous and influential TV anchor in the country. The show is distributed by Endemol International and Telefe International.

Caroline Torrance, the director of scripted programming and distribution at Endemol International, commented: "This show is already a phenomenon in Argentina and now looks set to take the rest of the world by storm. It has a fantastic mix of comedy and drama that captivates audiences and is typical of our growing portfolio of ratings winning dramas that can so easily be adapted for any market."

Alejandro Parra, the director of Telefe International, added: "The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells is undoubtedly the comedy of the year. We’ve just seen TVN in Chile release its prime-time adaptation at 8 p.m., which reached a market share of 40 percent and was absolute winner of its time slot. This bodes very well for the adaptations currently under development and we are also in the process of closing another raft of new deals for the original version just three months after the show’s debut in Argentina."
