LOS ANGELES: Just days after its U.S. premiere, the Showtime original The Borgias has landed slots across Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, CBS Studios International announced at MIPTV today.

Starring Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI, the series’ premiere at the weekend delivered Showtime’s biggest audience for a freshman drama series debut episode in seven years.

Deals have been concluded in Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Korea and Turkey, plus pan-regional agreements in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. This builds on previous announced deals with Sky Atlantic and Telecinco.

“This is a series tailor-made for the international market,” said Armando Nuñez, the president of CBS Studios International. “From the subject matter to the production values to the star power, The Borgias is a project that stood out from the beginning and the sales momentum soon followed. Showtime’s reputation for premium, high quality, original programming is growing around the world and this project clearly lived up to that billing.”
