Televisa, Telemundo in Cable Channel Pact

MIAMI: Televisa Networks has inked a deal with Telemundo for a cable channel to be distributed in Mexico and across Latin America, delivering content from the U.S. Hispanic broadcaster.

The initiative is a part of the wide-ranging pact signed by Televisa and Telemundo a year ago to distribute Telemundo’s content in Mexico on a variety of platforms. The new Telemundo channel will feature novelas and variety shows from the Hispanic broadcaster, such as Al Rojo Vivo, Levantate and El Cuerpo del Deseo. According to Telemundo, the branded offering rolls out on Sky and Cablevisión this summer with an eight-hour lineup that will repeat three times a day.

“The union of two leading broadcasting brands in Mexico represents a great accomplishment for Telemundo,” said Don Browne, the president of Telemundo. “This partnership has already generated great results for both our companies and with this agreement we will expand our reach and deliver the best Telemundo-branded content to a very important audience in Mexico and throughout Latin America.”

Bruce Boren, the executive director of Televisa Networks, added: “We are very proud to be partners of a great company like Telemundo and we are very excited about including a new channel in our package of signals. This new offer strengthens our existing organization and will help Televisa Networks solidify its leadership in the marketplace."

Televisa Networks has its own stable of brands for the worldwide cable channel marketplace, and has been working with BBC Global Channels on the distribution of BBC Entertainment and CBeebies in Latin America.
