Telefilm Canada Appoints New Chair

MONTREAL,
October 16: Telefilm Canada, a federal agency
dedicated to the development and promotion of the Canadian audiovisual
industry, has appointed
Michel Roy as its board chair, replacing Felix “Fil” Fraser, who has served as
interim chair since February.

Roy has filled several public service positions during his
career, including a stint as deputy
minister of communications, where he led many teams and advised the minister on
the management of Télé-Québec, the Régie des télécommunications
(telecommunications board) and the Commission d’accès à l’information (access
to information commission). He has also been the delegate of the Quebec
government in Chicago, and the deputy minister of tourism. Before entering
public service, Roy worked in television production in the 1960s and created more
than 60 programs for Radio-Canada.

“Michel
Roy’s experience in public administration and his interest in the arts,
television, music, and writing will make him an invaluable asset to Telefilm
and the Canadian industry,” said Wayne Clarkson, the executive director of
Telefilm. “Our team welcomes him with great enthusiasm.”
