Global advertising expenditure is expected to grow 4.4 percent this year to reach $539 billion, ahead of the 4.1 percent previously forecast, according to Zenith’s new Advertising Expenditure Forecast. This upgrade is mainly due to stronger‐than‐expected growth in the U.S. Zenith expects U.S. network TV to return to growth this year (at 1 percent) after shrinking 5 percent last year, thanks to new spending by pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods companies and a strong upfront.

Zenith: Mobile to Become Primary Platform for Online Video

According to Zenith’s Online Video Forecasts 2016 report, mobile devices will overtake "fixed devices" this year to become the main platform for viewing online video. The firm is forecasting that consumers will spend an average of 19.7 minutes a day viewing online videos on their mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), compared to 16 minutes on fixed devices (both desktop computers and smart TV sets).

Zenith Lowers Global Ad Forecast

The economic problems plaguing a number of Latin American markets have led Zenith to lower its forecast for global ad expenditure, which it now projects will rise by 4.1 percent this year as compared with the 4.6 percent gain predicted in March. Zenith said the downward revision was a result of recession and currency devaluation in LatAm territories, including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela, which account for more than half of the region's ad spend.

Zenith: TV Remains “By Far” the Most Popular of All Media

Zenith’s Media Consumption Forecasts report finds that mobile internet consumption is now growing at the expense of all other media, including TV, which still dominates despite recent declines. The amount of time people around the world devote to using mobile internet is forecast to increase by 27.7 percent this year, driving a 1.4-percent increase in overall media consumption.
