SINGAPORE: The Syfy channel in Asia is launching a short-film competition, Syfy Shorts, looking to discover talented young filmmakers within the region.

Syfy Shorts applicants must submit an original five-minute film in the science fiction, paranormal, adventure or fantasy genres, with selected submissions being aired on Syfy across Asia. Participants must also incorporate the Syfy channel’s theme of “Imagine Greater” as part of the story line or dialogue. The panel of judges features Singaporean filmmaker and director Eric Khoo; the managing director of Infinite Frameworks, Mike Wiluan; the Taiwanese director Lin Yu-Hsien; and David Gunson, the VP of SEA Channels at Syfy. Syfy will host the competition on-air and online until the deadline December 31.

Gunson said, “Syfy is a brand that likes to step out of the everyday into new worlds, new ideas and new experiences. Our viewers are of the same mind—curious and unafraid to imagine greater.”
