Super Bowl to Air Live on BBC

LONDON, January 25: BBC Two will
carry a live broadcast of Super Bowl XLII from
Arizona on Sunday, February 3, at 10:50 p.m., marking the first time that the
British pubcaster has aired the popular American football event.

Jake Humphrey will introduce the BBC’s first Super Bowl live
from University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona. There, he will joined by experts
Mike Carlson, who has been broadcasting on American football for almost two
decades, and Rod Woodson, who followed a 17-year playing career by becoming an
analyst for NFL Network. Woodson won a Super Bowl ring with the Baltimore
Ravens following the 2000 NFL season and appeared in two other Super
Bowls—for the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 1995 season and for the
Oakland Raiders in 2002.

Digital viewers will also have
access to a Beginner’s Guide To The NFL
and BBC Radio 5 Live’s commentary provided by Arlo White and Greg Brady, behind
the Red Button. There will also be live commentary on Radio 5 Live. Viewers can
follow the New England Patriots and the New York Giants on their journey to
this year’s Super Bowl in Road To The Super Bowl on Thursday, January 31 at 11:20 p.m. on BBC Two.

The BBC had inked an exclusive two-year deal with the NFL to
broadcast the Super Bowl live on terrestrial television in the U.K. The BBC
will be taking the World Feed pictures and commentary offered by the NFL. The
commentary team will be veteran U.S. broadcaster Dick Stockton and former
All-Pro receiver Sterling Sharpe. FOX is the host broadcaster for this year’s
Super Bowl.
