NEW YORK: Following on the success of its Emmy-nominated drama Carlos, Sundance Channel is working with ITV Studios on the new scripted project Appropriate Adult, to star Dominic West and Emily Watson.

The two-parter will tell the story of British serial killer Fred West and his relationship with his "appropriate adult" Janet Leach. An appropriate adult is the person who is appointed to sit in on police interviews with children or vulnerable adults to safeguard their interests. Dominic West (The Wire, 300) will play Fred West, while Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie, Breaking the Waves) stars as Janet Leach.

The mini-series will air this fall on Sundance Channel. Appropriate Adult is a co-production from Sundance Channel and ITV Studios.

“With emotional depth, superb acting and a powerful script, Appropriate Adult recounts a story that shook a nation and continues to resonate today,” said Sarah Barnett, Sundance Channel’s general manager. “We look forward to bringing our audience a second brand-defining scripted project, distinguished by culturally relevant subject matter and authentic and compelling storytelling.”
