Suit Filed Over Hannah Montana

LOS ANGELES, August 24: A comedy writer has filed suit
against The Walt Disney Company, maintaining that he came up with the premise
for the Disney Channel tween hit Hannah Montana.

The AP reports that Buddy Sheffield, whose writing credits
include The Dolly Parton Show and In
Living Color
, filed the suit in Los Angeles
Superior Court yesterday, claiming breach of contract, breach of confidence,
unfair competition and unjust enrichment. He maintains to have pitched Disney
with the idea for a show called Rock and Roland in 2001, about a tween student who has a secret life
as a rock star. Disney is said to have passed on the idea.

In 2006, the network launched Hannah Montana, which has become one of its biggest hits. It stars
Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart, a high-school student with a double life as a pop
star named Hannah Montana. Sheffield is seeking a share in revenues from the
show.
