Starz Media Unveils Diverse MIPTV Slate

BURBANK, April 10: Starz Media has unveiled its slate for
MIPTV, headlined by the hit Nick Jr. animated pre-school property Wow! Wow!
Wubbzy!,
among other diverse offerings such
as the anthologies Masters of Science Fiction and Masters of Horror 2.

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! features
the daily adventures of Wubbzy and his friends Widget
and Walden. The series is generating more than 40 million game plays on
Nickelodeon’s website.

Two 70-minute animated features
under the Stan Lee Presents banner will
also be offered: Stan Lee Presents: The Condor, with Wilmer Valderamma (That ‘70s Show), and Stan
Lee: Presents: Mosaic
, featuring Anna
Paquin (X-Men). The animated
series Eloise, which airs in the U.S. on Starz Kids & Family, and Garfield
& Friends,
which is based on Jim
Davis’ hit comic strip, will also be highlighted.

The company will also be offering the
anthologies Masters of Science Fiction, scheduled to premiere on ABC, and Showtime’s Masters of
Horror 2
at MIPTV. Munich-based Tandem
Communications is handling European sales of both anthologies. Each episode of Masters
of Science,
which features an introduction
by famed physicist Stephen B. Hawking, brings celebrated short stories from science fiction writers to the
screen. Masters of Horror 2, the
second serving of Showtime’s popular series of originals, is an anthology of
one-hour horror films directed and written by some of the genre’s top
filmmakers and writers, including John Carpenter (Halloween), and John Landis (An American Werewolf in
London
), among others. The live-action
horror film Behind the Mask, which
features A Nightmare of Elm Street’s
Robert Englund, will also be available to buyers.

The acclaimed 90-minute feature documentary Buy the
Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter S. Thompson on Film
will also be offered at MIPTV. The documentary, which is
narrated by Nick Nolte, chronicles the life and legacy of the legendary “gonzo”
writer Hunter S. Thompson, and features in-depth interviews with Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, John Cusack, Sean Penn,
Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Busey, Tom Wolfe and the late newsman Ed Bradley.

Through Tandem Communications, Starz
Media is bringing the superhero action series Painkiller Jane, which debuts April 13 in the U.S. on SCI FI
Channel, and Sands of Oblivion, the
first in Starz Media’s “Fantasy Adventure Collection.” Produced by Insight Film
Studios in Canada, in association with Starz Media and Kickstart Comic Arts
Studios, the series is based on characters created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe
Quesada. It stars Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3: The Rise of the
Machines, BloodRayne
), as government agent
Jane Vasco, who is part of an elite group hunting down people with exceptional
but unexplained abilities.
