STAR Expands Lineup in Bay Area

HONG KONG/LOS ANGELES: STAR has expanded its relationship with Comcast in the San Francisco Bay Area, adding four additional Indian channels to the cable platform’s lineup, including a Hindi-language news channel and a Tamil entertainment service.

STAR One, STAR India News, STAR India Gold and VIJAY join STAR India Plus on Comcast in the Bay Area. The carriage deals marks the first time a South Asian news channel has ever been carried by a U.S. cable platform. It’s also the first U.S. cable deal for the Tamil service VIJAY.

“We are pleased to broaden our offering of top-rated South Asian content for Comcast’s California subscribers,” said David Wisnia, STAR’s senior VP of distribution, sales and marketing and head of STAR’s North American and European office. “The launch of these four channels reflects a number of firsts in the industry and represents the fact that STAR now has the most South Asian channels of any one broadcaster on a cable platform. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with operators across North America and stand firm in our commitment to connect Asian viewers with relevant, compelling and top rated content.”

As of yesterday, the channels are available in Belvedere, Corte Madera, Cupertino, Fairfax, Forest Knolls, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Lagunitas, Larkspur, Los Altos, Marin, Mill Valley, Milpitas, Mountain View, Novato, Ross, San Anselmo, San Geronimo, San Quentin, San Rafael, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sausalito, Sunnyvale, Tiburon and Woodacre.
