SPTI, SK Telecom in South Korean Mobile VOD Deal

HONG KONG, January 30: Sony
Pictures Television International (SPTI) has inked an agreement to provide a
selection of feature films and television series on-demand to South Korean
mobile operator SK Telecom.

SPTI’s content will be
available to SK Telecom’s customers through its mobile platform NATE and June.
The company is the first Hollywood studio to offer its content on SK Telecom’s
platform.

At launch, titles
available from SPTI include all three movies from the Spider-Man franchise, Kung Fu Hustle, Surf’s Up, the Emmy-nominated TV series The Tudors and a range of other hits.

International is thrilled to team up with SK Telecom to offer the best of
Hollywood entertainment to South Korea mobile users,” said Ross Pollack, the senior
VP of distribution for Asia at Sony Pictures Television International. “South
Korea is one of the most wired parts of the world and a pioneering market in
terms of new media. This deal further strengthens our leading position in
digital and mobile distribution in Asia.”

“Mobile technology is
evolving and the way of consuming video content is changing fast,” said Soo
Hyeok Lee, the VP of the music business office at SK Telecom. “These changes
are expected to encourage more and more customers to watch movies and dramas on
their mobile phones. We will continue to expand our partnership with media
companies to enrich mobile-based video content services.”
