Spike Sets New Original Movie Event

SAN DIEGO, July 24: Spike
TV’s anime series Afro Samurai
will make its return with an original movie event in January 2009, featuring
the voices of Samuel L. Jackson and Lucy Liu.

Afro Samurai:
Resurrection
is based on the
original art and story telling of manga artist Takashi Okazaki, centered on a
black samurai’s quest for revenge for his murdered father. Jackson, who is also
an executive producer, will reprise his role as Afro, while Liu will lend her
voice as the seductive mastermind who is plotting to destroy him. The rap
artist and producer The RZA will once again provide the original score.

Spike.com and
Afrosamurai.com will air a sneak peek of the trailer for Afro Samurai:
Resurrection
starting today at
8:15 p.m., following its debut at Comic-Con. The new program is produced by
Japanese studio GONZO in partnership with GDH K.K. and FUNimation
Entertainment. A video game from Namco Bandai Games America will also be
released in 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
