Spike Orders Lionsgate Comedy

NEW YORK: Spike TV has given the greenlight to 13 episodes of the scripted half-hour comedy Blue Mountain State from Lionsgate and Varsity Pictures’ Brian Robbins and Sharla Sumpter-Bridgett.

The series, slated for a summer premiere, is executive produced by Robbins and Sumpter and co-executive produced by Chris Romano and Eric Falconer. Blue Mountain State follows three incoming freshmen attending a college football powerhouse as they adapt to college life and juggle football, girls, classes and nonstop hazing.

Announcing the pickup, Kevin Kay, the president of Spike TV, noted: "Blue Mountain State contains four key ingredients to being a guy…football, partying, women and hazing. We’re thrilled to be working with Brian Robbins, Varsity Pictures and Lionsgate on this outrageous comedy that combines college football with Animal House. And we think it’s a perfect fit for Spike’s young, male audience."

"It’s exciting to be moving forward with our friends at Spike, who appreciate programming that doesn’t play it safe," added Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate’s president of television programming and production. "With the terrific creative team headed by Brian and Sharla, Blue Mountain State is a show that doesn’t pull any punches—it’s just all-out funny."
