Spanish Version of Cheers in the Works for Telecinco

LOS ANGELES: CBS Studios International has licensed the Cheers format for Spain, with Telecinco having started production on a Spanish version of the hit ’80s sitcom.

The Spanish version of Cheers follows the same scheme of the original series, with the scenes to be filmed in an "Irish style" cozy bar. The show will center on the owner, employees and regular clients of the bar sharing conversations.

Alberto San Juan plays Nico, the bar owner. Antonio Resines is Felix Simón, a psychiatrist who has been forced to look for alternative jobs. Alexandra Jiménez is Rebeca, a young cultured woman who has been forced to work as a waitress after her father’s economic decline.

The treatment for Spain is produced by Telecinco in collaboration with Plural Entertainment and Tom Collins Productions.

The original U.S. sitcom was released in 1982 and ran for 11 seasons.
