Spanish Treatment in the Works for Inside the Box

TORONTO: Tricon Films & Television has closed a deal that sees Spanish outfit Redacción 7 producing a local version of Lone Eagle Entertainment’s game show Inside the Box, to air on Canal Sur 2.

The game-show format plays off the "tip of the tongue" factor, watching as three contestants race against time to identify familiar subjects from TV culture past and present. Contestants ask close-ended questions to help each other identify the hidden subject, with a two-minute countdown kicking things off. The players outside the box are shown an image from a TV show on their monitors selected from a variety of categories, while players inside the box must choose what to ask from a provided list of 60 questions.

Spain’s Canal Sur 2 will air the local version, with Lone Eagle providing production consultancy for all 85 episodes. Tricon Films & Television holds worldwide distribution rights to the format and the original 130×30-minute series, except for the U.S. and Canada.

Carrie Mudd, the VP of distribution and development at Tricon Films & Television, said: “As a quiz on popular television culture, this is the perfect game show for TV addicts. We’re delighted to bring it to Spanish audiences who we’re sure will love the show. The best game shows are those that are as much fun for viewers playing at home, and this, with its recap of well-loved and best known TV productions, really hits the mark.”

Mike Geddes, the president of Lone Eagle Entertainment, added: “We are in the business of creating new formats and testing them in our local market. This show was designed from the start to have broad appeal internationally as a format. The game structure lends itself to a highly localized version, sure to please audiences in different markets. We are delighted to have Spain start the ball rolling.”
