Social Wit List: October 2014

NEW YORK: A survey of all the new programs that premiered around the world in the month of October reveals that VH1's Drumline: A New Beat generated the most buzz in social media, with 152,000 Facebook and Twitter comments, according to data from The WIT.

Conversations around the musical TV movie, a sequel to a 2002 film that starred Nick Cannon, focused on #Music, #Disappointment, #Cheap and #NickCannonFans.

Second on the list of October's top-ten rankings of buzz-generating new shows is The CW's The Flash, with about 95,000 tweets. The buzz talk about the Arrow spin-off series centered around #FanPower, #WOW, #Excitement and #GreatCrossovers.

From Spain's Cuatro, the dating show Adán y Eva, a local adaptation of the Adam Looking for Eve Dutch format, drew around 93,000 tweets. Conversations in social media featured such themes as #GuiltyPleasure, #OMG, #DumbContestants and #Shameful.

The British one-off The Paedophile Hunter, an observational doc that aired on Channel 4 about a group who pose as underage children on social networking sites in order to identify men they assert have pedophilic predilections, had around 60,000 tweets. Viewers using social media were commenting on the #HotIssue, #StrongReactions and #ProsandCons.

Fifth on the list is TVN Chile's 31 minutos, a new version of the popular entertainment show that spoofs a news show. Around 43,000 tweets went out in social media about the show, with commenters addressing the #Cult appeal, #Nostalgia and #ViralSongs.

Chile's local adaptation of the MasterChef format, MasterChef Chile on Canal 13, had a lot of positive social media chatter, with around 42,000 tweets. The topics touched on #EngagedViewers, #Passion and #LOLTweets.

The Cover, qui fera la meilleure version, a one-off French entertainment special on D8, had around 42,000 tweets. The broadcast featured 12 contestants who were already famous from YouTube doing cover songs. Buzz talk included the themes #EpicFail, #CheapExecution, #Lame and #WTF.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's collaborative Cheek to Cheek one-off special on PBS in the U.S. had social media buzzing. Around 32,000 tweets were sent about the program, with talk surrounding #LadyGagaFans, #Classy and #Emotional.

The new NBC fantasy drama Constantine, based on the DC Comics' character John Constantine, had about 29,000 tweets. Social media conversations included the topics #FanPower, #NotAsGoodAsExpected and #GreatLeadActor.

Capping off the list was another new U.S. series, CBS's Stalker. The psychological thriller created by Keven Williamson garnered around 26,000 tweets, with common themes being #WilliamsonFans, #PureTerrorPorn, #SolidCast, #Scary and #Addictive.
