NEW YORK: To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the donation of the world’s most valuable diamond to the National Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Channel has scheduled the hour-long special Mystery of the Hope Diamond to air on November 21.

Kim Basinger narrates the film, which tells the story of the gem, combining history, science and legend. The story tells two exclusive events: the creation of a new 21st century setting selected by the American people and an experiment to reveal the inner secrets of the diamond.

Mystery of the Hope Diamond is a Blink Films Production for Smithsonian Channel in association with Channel 4, National Geographic Channels International, ARTE and NHK. The special will air on Smithsonian Channel at 8 p.m. on November 21.
