Karen Bieleski, the head of entertainment content at Sky New Zealand, has resigned from her role and is set to depart in October.

Bieleski joined Sky in February 2006 as channel manager for Prime TV and a big part of her tenure saw Prime’s growing presence in local production. In 2010, Bieleski’s role expanded to include management of Sky’s suite of owned and operated entertainment channels. In recent years, she has also launched and overseen the entertainment department’s local production unit.

“We all know Karen’s contribution to Sky and its envied entertainment content portfolio, but it’s her passion, knowledge and good humor we’ll miss the most,” said Sky’s director of entertainment, Travis Dunbar.

Dunbar added: “From Prime’s expansion into local content, resulting in iconic Kiwi shows like The Brokenwood Mysteries that resonate around the world; to tracking concepts, scripts and shows, Karen’s love for the medium is renowned within our industry. We’ll miss her greatly, but we thank her for the major part she’s played in the Sky story.”

Bieleski said: “I have had an incredibly rewarding 13 years at Sky, which have offered me a vast range of challenging opportunities. I’ve been privileged to deal with so many great people among Sky’s international suppliers, New Zealand’s best local producers and my own fantastic channel teams.”

“However, I am ready for a change of pace and am looking forward to a well-earned break after spending most of the last decade glued to a variety of screens!”
