SKY Italia Revenues Top Mediaset

ROME: According to Italian regulator AGCOM, SKY Italia’s revenues topped those of Mediaset in 2008, coming in just behind state-controlled RAI.

A speech by AGCOM’s chairman, Corrado Calabro, cited in the Wall Street Journal, notes: "SKY Italia has consolidated its position, becoming the second television group in terms of revenue."

The News Corporation-owned pay-TV platform posted 2008 revenues of 2.64 billion euros, AGCOM reports, behind RAI’s 2.72 billion euros and ahead of Mediaset RTI’s 2.53 billion euros. "This is just the beginning," James Murdoch, News Corp.’s chief executive of Europe and Asia, was quoted as saying in the Journal. "The market is broad and there’s space for others players."
