SINGAPORE: The Media Development Authority (MDA) has levied a S$50,000 ($36,342) fine on SingTel’s mioTV as a result of a 12-hour service outage related to a software glitch.

The MDA notes that as part of its subscription TV license, the platform is required to provide services "at a reasonable quality that meets public expectations and is satisfactory to MDA," as well as "operate an efficient consumer service and provide avenues for speedy resolution of consumers’ complaints on its service."

The MDA says it has found of evidence of the platform breaching its license conditions for quality of service and consumer service during the service outage on March 1. While SingTel took efforts to correct the malfunction and resume service, the outage impacted more than 10,000 subscribers. MDA says the platform could have provided "better consumer support and resolved consumer complaints in a timely manner."
