Sherlock Continues to Bring in Sales

LONDON: A further 12 broadcasters have signed deals with BBC Worldwide to air the crime-solving drama Sherlock, based on the classic detective tales from Arthur Conan Doyle.

CH1 and CH5 in Russia, Czech TV of Czech Republic, RTV Slovenia, Estonia’s ETV, RTS of Serbia and France Television have just added the series to their roster. New Zealand’s TVNZ and Showcase in Canada are also on board. Further sales are BBC Entertainment Africa and BBC Entertainment Latin America as well as Ireland’s RTE. These 12 new broadcasters join the existing six territories already set to air Sherlock.

Steve Macallister, the managing director for BBC Worldwide Sales and Distribution, said: “The great success Sherlock has had in the U.K., and the continuing international demand confirm audiences are looking for gripping and creative storytelling. Hartswood Films has done a spectacular job of taking a beloved classic and reinventing it as a contemporary audience favorite.”

Andrew Shaw, the general manager of commissioning, production and acquisitions at TVNZ, added: “Only rarely does a unique retelling of a timeless classic fall into your hands. I’m very happy to catch this one.”
