Sesame Street Block Planned for Denmark

NEW YORK/COPENHAGEN: Elmo and his Danish friend Signe are to host Sesamgade, a Sesame Street programming lineup on TV2 in Denmark.

Sesamgade will be featured on TV2’s weekend blcok Bavian, targeting 4- to 6-year-olds. Along with original Danish material, Sesamgade will feature series such as Play with Me Sesame and Elmo’s World. The furry red puppet will host alongside Signe, a young woman who has known Elmo since he was a baby. The two will sing songs, learn letters, tell stories and explore with kids at home.

The original Danish material and packaging of the show is being produced by Copenhagen-based production company Metronome Productions. Denmark’s Elmo puppeteer was trained by Kevin Clash, Sesame Street muppet captain and the force behind Elmo.

Sesame Street was first introduced to Denmark 20 years ago,” said Scott Chambers, Sesame Workshop’s VP and general manager of worldwide media distribution. “We’re so proud to partner with TV2, ‘broadcaster of the people,’ to help a new generation of children learn to read, to count and to share with some of the most colorful characters on television today.”

“People, young and old and from all around the world, know Sesame Street,” added Preben Vridstoft, the executive producer of children’s programs for TV2. “It is a brand trusted by parents and loved by children, and we are delighted to bring to Denmark our very own Elmo and a native host to represent our wonderful rich culture.”
