Scoop & Doozie

ORIGIN: The series is based on an original idea.

DISTRIBUTOR: TVA Films, a division of Group TVA Inc.

CREATOR: Vicki Grant

TV SHOW: Targeting kids aged 3 to 6, this puppet-based series, billed as a "construction comedy," consists of 65 15-minute episodes. It is a production of Queen Bee Productions.

DESCRIPTION: Something amazing happens in the Cobb’s backyard. When Andy leaves his toys behind, Scoop, a toy excavator, Doozie, a toy bulldozer, and Axel, the toy dump truck, begin to act like real construction equipment! Well, sort of.

Real construction equipment probably doesn’t watch building videos through a hole in the fence. Or fight over the last slice of mud pie. Or seek advice from two wise old pairs of underwear. Or have to worry about a nasty hose putting a kink in their plans. But, then again, real construction equipment doesn’t have this much fun either.

The series won the Gemini for best writing in a children’s or youth program, and was nominated for best preschool program, among other Gemini categories.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Romney Grant from Queen Bee Productions and Adrian Mills from CBC

COMMISSIONING BROADCASTER: CBC Television for its kids’ block (at the time named CBC Playground.)

STRATEGY FOR ROLLOUT: TVA Films relaunched the series at MIPTV and will be presenting it further to clients at MIPCOM. The catchy songs and adorable puppet characters are intended to appeal to kids the world over, making them laugh while also feeding their fascination with making things. Aimed at preschoolers, the series also encourages problem-solving skills.

TVA’s strategy for the property also includes a DVD rollout, with several titles already on the market.
