SCI FI in CEE Gets Legend of the Seeker

LONDON: NBC Universal Global Networks has picked up the rights to Disney-ABC Television Group’s syndicated drama Legend of the Seeker for its SCI FI channel in Russia, Poland and Romania.

Produced by Sam Raimi, of the Spider-Man movie franchise, and the creative forces behind Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, the show is set in a distant land, in an age of swords, dragons and magic, focusing on a mountain guide who is thrust into an epic adventure after falling in love with a woman with magical powers. The series is shot on location in New Zealand. SCI FI, which picked up the two-hour pilot as well as 21 1-hour episodes, launches the series on its Russian, Polish and Romanian outlets in the fall.

Colin McLeod, the managing director for Central and Eastern Europe at NBCU Global Networks, said: “We’ve had a fantastic run of highly anticipated, much talked about premiere series on the channel this year—and Legend of the Seeker is no exception. There was a tremendous buzz ahead of its launch in the U.S. and the first night ratings are testament to what a fantastic show it is. The special effects and exciting plot twists make it a real gem for our autumn schedule.”
