CANNES: Multimedia Development Corporation (MDec) has sold the animated kids’ action-adventure series Saladin to Turkey’s ATV.

The series is aimed at 10- to 15-year-olds. It was inspired by the 12th century statesman, who in the series is 18 years old and ready to take on the world. Saladin is a co-production between MDeC and Al Jazeera Children’s Channel.

Kamil Othman, the VP for the creative multimedia department at MDeC, said: “Malaysia is proud to be partnering with Al Jazeera Children’s Channel in producing high quality content for worldwide markets. There is a huge demand internationally for children’s action series as this sale demonstrates, and we look forward to developing further relationships in this exciting area.”

Erdi Zencirli, the head of acquisitions for ATV and Minika, kids’ channel of ATV and Turkuvaz Media Group, added: “We have been extremely pleased with our investment in Saladin. This kind of project rarely comes along and we believe we will see the success of this investment with a big return from both a cultural and commercial perspective.”
