RTL Germany Re-Commissions Dancing Format

COLOGNE: RTL Germany has commissioned Granada Germany to produce a third season of the BBC Worldwide entertainment format Let’s Dance, based on the British hit Strictly Come Dancing.

Let’s Dance sees a cast of celebrities partnering with professional dancers to compete against each other by performing a variety of routines. One couple is eliminated at the end of each episode, leading up to a finale where one couple is crowned ballroom champion. The show will broadcast live every Friday starting April 9 from 9:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for an eight-episode run.

Tom Saenger, the executive of entertainment at RTL Television, said, “We are really looking forward to the new season for we have renewed the format. We have a new host constellation, a new judging panel and a new look. Let’s Dance supplements our music shows Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Pop Idol) and Das Supertalent (Britain’s Got Talent) in an excellent way. Let’s Dance is a strong brand and it appears to us that the audience is really looking forward to it.”

Jan Kromschroeder, the managing director of Granada Germany, part of ITV Studios, added, “When we produced the first two seasons of Let’s Dance for RTL in 2006 and 2007 the series achieved an average 20-percent share amongst all viewers. When Let’s Dance 3 premieres this April, we will once again delight viewers with a truly brilliant entertainment show.”
