Report Shows Growth in European VOD Services

STRASBOURG, February 19:
At the end of 2007, there were 258 video-on-demand services operating in 24
countries across Europe, up from 142 at the end of 2006, according to a study
commissioned the European Audiovisual Observatory and the French government's
Media Development Department (DDM).

The survey, conducted by
NPA Conseil, found that France continues to lead the pack with 32 services,
followed by the Netherlands with 30 and Germany with 26. Together, these three
countries account for almost a third of Europe's VOD services. Rounding out the
top five were Sweden and the U.K. with 16 services each.

Most of the available VOD
platforms are delivered via broadcasters’ websites, offering catch-up services
for viewers. Across Europe, there are 62 website-delivered catch-up services,
followed by 11 IPTV broadband platforms, 8 cable services, 2 on satellite and 1
via DTT in the U.K.
