Report Sees Growth in Internet Video to TV Revenues

DALLAS: The revenues from the delivery of Internet video to television sets is forecast to rise from just $1 billion this year to $5.7 billion in 2014, driven by the rollout of broadband-enabled TVs.

The forecast comes from research firm TDG in its new report, Broadband-Enabled TV: Rise of the OTT Provider, authored by TDG senior partner Colin Dixon. Over-the-top revenues, as they are called, will be dominated by pay-per-view services (96 percent) this year, the report concludes, with subscription revenues contributing just 4 percent. By 2014, however, subscriptions are expected to account for 31 percent of revenues. The growth is being driven by broadband-connected TVs, game consoles that allow users to connect to the Internet, Blu-ray players and hybrid set-top boxes.
