DALLAS: A new Parks Associates report projects that 81 percent of U.S. and Canadian pay-TV subscribers will be able to access content online via TV Everywhere services by the middle of this year.

U.S. platforms in particular have embraced TV Everywhere, the report says, in a bid to reduce churn and lure younger customers. Almost 40 percent of U.S. broadband customers between the ages of 18 and 34 are interested in TV Everywhere, Parks Associates says. TV Everywhere rollouts are also being encouraged by the proliferation of rival online video platforms, increased competition and the rise in online and mobile video consumption.

“Service providers realize they need to be the consumer’s primary source of video content on all platforms,” said Brett Sappington, senior analyst at Parks Associates. “In North America and Western Europe, TV Everywhere has moved rapidly from a handful of offerings to widespread availability. Today, operators from all sectors, telco, cable, and satellite, now offer online access to VOD or live TV, with several adding support for smartphones and tablets."
