CANNES: At a press conference this morning in Cannes, Reed MIDEM announced that 11,500 delegates are on site at MIPTV this week—where co-productions and partnerships were a dominant theme—including 4,000 buyers, a 5-percent increase on last year, the organization said.

Attendance is on par with last year, when the number of executives in attendance was down 14 percent as the economic recession took hold. Companies from 106 countries are present at the market, with about 3,985 companies in all, according to MIPTV director Laurine Garaude. Among the territories that having been ramping up their presence at the market include China, Central and Eastern Europe, the U.K, U.S. and the Middle East, Garaude noted.

Discussing the themes of this week’s event, Garaude cited the increasing importance of co-pros. "It’s clear that there is an appetite for international partnerships across the board," she said. "With broadcasters still feeling the effects of the dip in advertising revenues, there is a need to spread financing across several partners. It’s been particularly noticeable that Asian countries are increasing their co-production profile, which is why this week’s MIPTV conference program has provided dedicated sessions to co-production opportunities in Japan, China, Malaysia and Singapore."
