NEW YORK: After taking a hit before the economic crisis, movie rentals have since rebounded, according to a new PwC report.

According to The Speed of Life, renting is again the preferred method of movie consumption. The report indicates that 43 percent of consumers are more likely to obtain their movie content by renting a physical copy via mail subscription services like Netflix. Plus, about 33 percent are willing to pay a premium to access movies within a shorter window.

"As film companies consider new ways to reach consumers in the digital age, the widespread appeal of renting a physical or digital copy demonstrates that models based on price and convenience may be the most attractive to consumers," the report says.

Other key findings include that 32 percent of respondents use an online movie subscription service once a month or more, and 31 percent stream free content once a month, legally or illegally.
