Pucca

TV Kids Weekly, January

NAME: Pucca

ORIGIN: Pucca originated as the cheeky, eponymous
star of an animated online e-card service created by the Korean company Vooz
Co., Ltd. in 2000. The character quickly became a runaway licensing
phenomenon in Korea and the rest of Asia. A series of two-and-a-half minute
Flash-animated shorts featuring Pucca were produced by Vooz. Jetix Europe then acquired the
licensing and TV rights to the shorts for Europe and the Middle East. The
shorts subsequently aired on Jetix Europe and selected MTV channels across
Europe.

Jetix Europe
has since developed a new 78×7-minute TV series starring Pucca, with Vooz’s collaboration, which was
produced by Studio B in Canada. The series develops the original characters
that were featured in the two-and-a-half minute shorts and brings brand new
characters and settings to the world of Pucca (for example, Pucca globetrots her way to Paris, the
Antarctic and even goes surfing.) The new 7-minute series also includes
dialogue where the previous shorts did not.

CREATORS: Vooz Co. created the Pucca character and the original Flash
animated two-and-a-half minute shorts. Jetix Europe developed a brand new Pucca series, produced by Studio B.

TV SHOW: The first season of Pucca is a Flash-animated, action-comedy
series, consisting of 78, 7-minute episodes. A second season of 39 episodes is
now in production at Studio B.

The daughter
of a Chinese restaurant owner, feisty Pucca is obsessed with her one true love,
Garu. Young Garu has a different idea; he is following the stoic path of the
Ninja and wants to be left in peace. Pucca's uncles, Linguini, Ho and
Uncle Dumpling, want to perfect their restaurant's noodle recipe, and Garu’s
friend Abyo just wants to rip his shirt off and be like Bruce Lee.

Funny love and
kung-fu kicks abound as feisty Pucca creates hilarious wok-fried fun! Simple
stories explode into wild fiascos at the drop of a noodle!

MAJOR TOY
LICENSEES:
Jetix
Europe is in discussions with potential master toy/gift and publishing partners
and is looking at mobile/game opportunities.

Pucca consumer products enjoy mainstream
success throughout the world, particularly within Korea and the rest of Asia
where the number of Pucca-branded stores are expected to reach 86 by the end of 2006, with
over 3,000 different Pucca products available. Pucca has won the prestigious Korean Character Award four
times, including in 2006.

The Pucca licensing and marketing program for
Europe and the Middle East is managed by Jetix Europe’s licensing division,
Jetix Consumer Products (JCP), which has secured over 100 key partners mainly
for teen-oriented products. In 2007, the focus will be on broadening the Pucca range of products to target mass
market, focusing on kids.

OTHER
PRODUCTS:
JCP is
looking to maintain the momentum of the successful European Pucca licensing phenomenon across all of
these categories, with a focus on kids in 2007, where there will be an emphasis
on plush, fashion apparel, stationary and gifts. In 2007, Pucca travel books will be produced in
France and Spain, with other publications in the pipeline.

STRATEGY
FOR ROLL OUT:
Pucca fits into Jetix Europe’s strategy of
creating brands that can travel across several platforms. “We need to start
looking at how we can develop properties in different ways for different media,”
says Paul Taylor, the CEO of Jetix Europe. “So, for example, take something
like Pucca, which
originated as an online greetings card. We’ve developed that into a TV series
and we’re also looking at mobile phone games.”

The first Pucca series debuted successfully last
summer on a number of Jetix channels and platforms worldwide. These include the
Jetix block on the
Toon Disney channels in the U.S. and Japan, as well as the three Jetix channels
in Latin America. In addition, since July 2006, Jetix U.K. and Jetix
Netherlands have been trialing a VOD service for Pucca via their websites. Work on the second
season of Pucca
started in October 2006 and the series is scheduled to air on Jetix Europe
channels from 2008.
