Possible Privatization for Shaw Brothers

HONG KONG, December 16:
Hong Kong media mogul Sir Run Run Shaw is looking to take Shaw Brothers private
after failing in his attempt to sell his majority interest in the company,
which owns a stake in leading terrestrial broadcaster TVB.

Shaw Brothers—whose
famed Chinese-language movie library is now controlled by Celestial
Pictures—owns a 26-percent interest in TVB, among other assets. Sir Run
Run, who owns 75 percent of Shaw Brothers, has been trying to sell off his
majority stake. With that attempt called off, he is now looking to take full
control of the company.

Sir Run Run is also the
chairman of TVB, and his wife, Mona Fong, who heads up Shaw Brothers, is the
broadcaster's managing director.
