PBS KIDS Sprout To Launch First Live Preschool Morning Show

PHILADELPHIA, September
12: PBS KIDS Sprout is set to launch a live preschool morning program, titled The
Sunny Side Up Show
, on September
26 at 9 a.m.

Hosted by Kevin Yamada,
previously host for Sprout’s The Birthday Show, and Philadelphia-based actress Kelly Vrooman, The
Sunny Side Up Show
will take place
inside a fanciful barn in the hills of Sprout, with staging such as a
toaster-shaped monitor for live e-mail interaction and a crate-desk for the
hosts, who will rotate weekly. Special guests will stop by on a regular basis,
including Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Nina from Sprout’s The Good Night
Show.

Each day, Chica, a playful
chicken puppet who communicates with kazoo-like sounds only decipherable to the
hosts, will join on-air. Chica will also supply surprise eggs that can be
cracked open for clues, games or a joke-of-the-day.

Each week, the show will
explore a new theme ranging from colors, numbers and letters to manners,
gardening and pets, as well as holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving.

SproutOnline.com will play
an instrumental role in the show’s unique, live interaction between viewers and
hosts, linking preschoolers and their parents to the live broadcast and
encouraging them to share thoughts. Parents, along with their preschoolers,
will be able to submit messages and send photos directly to the hosts, who may
share the submissions live on the air.

Sandy Wax, the president
of Sprout, commented: “The Sunny Side Up Show rounds out our network’s distinctive programming
line-up that follows the day of the preschooler from breakfast to bedtime.
Whether you are starting your day with our live morning show, discovering new
things every afternoon with The Let’s Go Show, or getting ready for bed each night with The
Good Night Show
, Sprout is always
there to share in what’s important to preschoolers and their families.”
