What are your top properties for MIPTV?
We are presenting quite a few new titles at this market including Intelligence (Action Miniseries / Series – 6×100’ or 12×50’), inspired by features such as the Bourne trilogy, the latest James Bond and Mission Impossible films, Intelligence is the first series dedicated to espionage and secret services produced by Italian television. We are also proud to be selling CRIME SQUAD (Police Series – 44×50’), the internal dynamics of a new police station in the centre of Naples where two different strategies for fighting crime have to live side by side. Also, at the centre of Crime Squad, criminal investigations and the personal lives of a squad of police officers. We will also be presenting some scripted formats including About My Brother (soft crime series, 6X100’), an original and surprising soft crime series (which has been adapted in Portugal and we closed an option in the USA with Shine Reveille). Family Storm, comedy series, 8×50´ (Seasons 1-3-4) ; 12×50´ (Season 2), a comedy series of a random encounter, in an immense park in North America, starts up the extraordinary and, at times, forced cohabitation of two families, a northern italian middle-class family and a boisterous and southern family (options were closed in France and Greece). Young Enough, comedy Sitcom, 20×30´ (16 seasons), that has been making Italians laugh since 1988 (which has been adapted in Portugal, Serbia, Croatia and an option recently closed in Turkey).

Why will these programs appeal to buyers?
Mediaset’s production quality has undoubtfully increased in the past years; and some of our productions (including the ones above) are now produced with an international flavor that allow us to travel with them among various broadcasters in the most diverse markets.

What are your goals and expectations for MIPTV?
Due to the well known economic crisis, in 2009, the whole market has been still sort of “on hold” and only acquiring the indispensable. We are hopeful in that this market will give a signal of recovery and therefore increase our sales of ready made productions; whilst we’d be happy to maintain our performance regarding formats.
In addition to our rich ready-made catalogue we increased notably our newly scripted formats business and after one year of activity we have closed options and adaptations in 6 in different countries (including France and the US). We look to promote and strengthen the market perception of our company as not only a supplier of ready-made programs, but also as a provider of successful and profitable stories and ideas for producers.
MIPTV 2010 is also an occasion for Mediaset Distribution to present and promote the international distribution of Mediaset Italia a new linear channel offering the best of Mediaset’s programming, just a few hours/days after airing on its local mainstream TV channels (Canale 5, Italia 1 and Rete 4); targeted to the 60 million Italians living around the world.
