Parthenon Kids To Unveil New Series At Cartoon Forum

LONDON, August 3: Parthenon Kids, the children’s programming
division of British producer and distributor Parthenon Entertainment, will be
screening a four-minute pilot of a new preschool series at this year’s Cartoon
Forum.

The series, Kat and C.a.T, is targeted at children aged four to six. Sponsored by Nickelodeon,
it follows Kat and her toy friends through a magical world of arts and crafts,
and teaches children to overcome challenges while being creative.

Executives at Parthenon Kids are excited about the cross
platform potential of the show, and are planning to blend traditional arts and
crafts activities with modern technology to engage and entertain children.

“In every episode of Kat and C.a.T the characters are engaging and inspiring and the
story lines are full of fantasy and fun,” said Karina Stanford-Smith, the head
of children’s production at Parthenon Kids, who also created the show. “However,
the series has another dimension, too. It is played out through arts and crafts
and the intention is to take the young viewer on a magical journey by providing
them with the tools to physically re-create the characters and environment in
which the adventures take place. We want to see children engaging in more
traditional play patterns by encouraging them to get out the glitter and the
colored cards and enjoy the make and do aspect of the show, while still
engaging with new technologies, via the website and downloads.”

An example of this is Parthenon’s plans to provide a “stick
and stitch” section on the show’s website, where kids can download cutout
patterns and worksheets to build characters and sets from the series.
