NHK VP to Lead ABU

TOKYO,
November 26: Yoshinori Imai, the VP of NHK, has been elected as the new
president of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

NHK's former
president Genichi Hashimoto resigned in January, and ABU president's post has
been vacant since then. "I worked for more than 40 years as a broadcast
journalist, on the forefront of global news gathering and international
relations," said Imai. "A highlight of my career has been my
association with the ABU for more than a decade and it's time for me to take a
more active role in the undertakings of the ABU.

"Our job,
broadcasting is to face many challenges; a smooth digital migration,
accommodating the Internet and broadband technologies. I would look forward to
facing these challenges, continuing to working with you, enjoying the great
deal of diversity in cultures, values and customs in our region."
